Popular Items at Downtown Desserts and Pizza
Downtown Desserts and Pizza is a standout in the UK takeaway scene—particularly in Luton—for offering a comprehensive menu that bridges the gap between a high-energy pizza house and a gourmet dessert parlor. It is a go-to for those who want a full-course meal, from savory grilled mains to decadent sweet finishes.
- Churros: Frequently cited as one of the most liked items, these are freshly made and served as a portion of six, often paired with chocolate dipping sauces.
- Downtown Garlic Special Pizza: A signature choice that swaps traditional tomato sauce for a rich garlic base, topped with hotdog, pepperoni, olives, and a final garlic swirl.
- Chicken Fillet & Zinger Burger Meals: These are consistent top-sellers for those looking for a crispy, breaded chicken breast seasoned with a mild or spicy kick.
- Old School Desserts: Items like the Chocolate Tart and Cornflake Tart (served with whippy ice cream or custard) are highly popular for those seeking nostalgic British bakery flavors.
- Belgian & American Style Waffles: Topped with fresh fruits, Belgian chocolate, or biscuit crumbles like Oreo and Biscoff, these are staples of their late-night delivery service.
Budget-Friendly Choices at Downtown Desserts and Pizza
The menu is built around high-value meal deals, ensuring that ordering for a single person or a large group remains affordable. Their tiered “Special Offer” structure is designed to provide a complete meal (including sides and drinks) for a fixed lower price.
| Option Type | What to Expect | Smart Choice Example |
| Individual Meals | 7″ Pizza, chips/wedges, and a drink | Meal 4 (7″ Pizza) |
| Lunch Deals | A burger or wrap with fries and a drink | Zinger Burger Meal |
| Collection Deals | Significant discounts on collection orders | Any Pizza Any Size (£11.99) |
| Sweet Snacks | Classic chocolate bars or single cookies | Any Chocolate Bar (£1.00) |
- Choosing the “Pizza Special” deal (Any size pizza for a set price) is the most effective way to maximize value, especially when ordering the larger “Super” sizes.
- The Home Alone deal is a practical choice for solo diners, bundling a medium pizza, a starter, a dip, and a drink for around £14.99.
- Utilizing the BOGOH (Buy One Get One Half Price) offers—available on most sizes—helps significantly reduce the per-pizza cost for pairs or small groups.
What to Order at Downtown Desserts and Pizza Based on Your Needs
With a menu that spans from spicy “Dragon Wings” to “Strawberry Fondues,” you can easily tailor your order to your specific appetite or the time of day.
- For solo meals: A Meal 5 (Chicken Strips) or a Home Alone pizza deal provides a balanced, pre-packaged portion with no waste.
- For spicy food fans: The Mexicano Pizza (with green chillies and Mexican chicken) or the Fiery Dragon Wings are the preferred choices for a robust heat profile.
- For the truly hungry: The Manager Special is a heavy-hitter, providing a large pizza, a starter, a dessert of your choice, and a large bottle of soft drink.
- For dessert enthusiasts: A Brownie Fusion or a Cookie Dough platter (served with whippy ice cream) offers a warm, indulgent contrast to the savory mains.
- For quick takeaway: Handheld Toasted Wraps or Milkshakes are easier to manage and enjoy while on the move compared to large boxed pizzas.
What to Know Before Ordering from Downtown Desserts and Pizza
Understanding the specific deals and app-based advantages can help you get the freshest food and the best prices.
- App Advantage: Many branches encourage downloading the Downtown Takeaway App, which often provides an immediate 20% discount on your first order.
- Specialty Bases: Aside from the traditional tomato base, they offer Garlic Sauce and BBQ Sauce bases as standard alternatives for most specialty pizzas.
- Dessert Customization: When ordering a meal deal that includes a dessert (like the Manager Special), remember to specify your preference in the comments, as they offer a wide range from waffles to cheesecakes.
- Delivery Reliability: Located in areas like Luton and Stevenage, they are known for maintaining high delivery standards even late into the evening (often until midnight or later).
- Group Savings: The 2’s Special and 3’s Special are strictly designed for sharing, offering fixed prices for multiple pizzas that are lower than individual BOGOH deals.
Is Downtown Desserts and Pizza Halal, Vegan, or Vegetarian Friendly?
Downtown caters to a diverse UK demographic by offering several dietary-specific items across both their savory and sweet menus.
| Category | Availability |
| Halal | Widely Available. The chicken and meat toppings are generally halal-certified; look for the (H) symbol on digital menus or confirm with the branch. |
| Vegetarian | Excellent. Options include the Vegetarian Hot Pizza, Garlic Mushrooms, Mozzarella Sticks, and almost the entire dessert menu. |
| Vegan | Limited. While some sorbets or fruit-based items might be suitable, most pizzas and desserts contain dairy and eggs. |
Alternatives to Downtown Desserts and Pizza
If you enjoy the combination of pizza and gourmet desserts but want to compare other established UK brands:
- Two Bros Pizza & Dessert: Commonly chosen by users looking for a similar focus on wood-fired style pizzas paired with premium waffle and cake selections.
- Kaspa’s Desserts: Often preferred for those who want a more “parlor-style” sit-down experience with an even larger focus on sundaes and milkshakes.
- Papa Johns: A suitable alternative for those who prefer a more standardized high-street pizza focus with specialized vegan options and “Papa’s Desserts” like giant cookies.
