Ingredients (for 4)

  • Kobe-beef patties – 4
  • Brioche buns – 4 – halved
  • Gouda cheese slices – 4
  • Red ripe tomatoes – 4 slices
  • Boston lettuce leaves – 4 large
  • Sweet onions – 2 large – thinly sliced
  • Extra virgin olive oil – 4 tablespoons
  • Brown sugar – 2 tablespoons
  • Balsamic vinegar – 3 tablespoons
  • Salt – to taste
  • Black pepper – freshly ground, to taste
  • White truffle oil – 1 teaspoon – optional
  • Paprika – 1 teaspoon
  • Potatoes – 4 – cut into thin fries
  • Sunflower oil –  – for deep frying the potatoes

Preparation

  1. Step 1 – 🔥🍚🧅Heat 3 tablespoons of olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add onions, brown sugar and a pinch of salt. Stir well and cook until the onions are caramelized, about 15 minutes.
  2. Step 2 – 🍯🧅🍽️Deglaze with balsamic vinegar and reduce over low heat. Set the caramelized onion jam aside.
  3. Step 3 – 🔥🔥🔥Preheat the grill to high.
  4. Step 4 – 🥩🧂🌶️Season the beef patties with salt, black pepper and paprika.
  5. Step 5 – 🍔🧀🔥Grill the patties until desired level of doneness, about 4 minutes per side for medium-rare, and place a slice of Gouda on each during the last minute of grilling to melt.
  6. Step 6 – 🥖🔥🪵Lightly brush the cut sides of the buns with the remaining olive oil and toast on the grill for about 1 minute until golden brown.
  7. Step 7 – 🥔🍟🔥In the meantime, deep fry the potato slices in sunflower oil until golden and crispy.
  8. Step 8 – 🍔🥬🍅Layer the burgers: Bottom bun, lettuce, tomato, beef patty with melted cheese, a dollop of caramelized onion jam, a drizzle of truffle oil (optional), and top with the other half of the bun.
