Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 package active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 cup diced apples
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup butter, cold and cut into cubes
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1-2 tablespoons milk
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
- Add the milk mixture, melted butter, and egg to the dry ingredients and knead until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- In a bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar, and egg yolk until smooth. Stir in diced apples and cinnamon.
- Make the crumble topping by mixing flour, brown sugar, and cold butter with your fingers until crumbly. Set aside.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Punch down the raised dough and divide into 8 equal pieces.
- Flatten each piece into a disk, spoon cream cheese filling onto center, and fold edges over to seal.
- Place buns seam side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Sprinkle crumble topping over each bun.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make the glaze.
