  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 cup diced apples
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, cold and cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions 

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Add the milk mixture, melted butter, and egg to the dry ingredients and knead until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  1. In a bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar, and egg yolk until smooth. Stir in diced apples and cinnamon.
  2. Make the crumble topping by mixing flour, brown sugar, and cold butter with your fingers until crumbly. Set aside.
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Punch down the raised dough and divide into 8 equal pieces.
  3. Flatten each piece into a disk, spoon cream cheese filling onto center, and fold edges over to seal.
  4. Place buns seam side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Sprinkle crumble topping over each bun.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
