Daily Calorie Calculator
Estimate how many calories you may need each day based on the Mifflin–St Jeor equation.
Results are estimates for general information only. Food portions, recipes and individual needs vary. This tool is not medical advice.
How the daily calorie estimate works
This calculator uses the Mifflin–St Jeor equation to estimate Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which represents energy used at rest. It then applies an activity factor to estimate maintenance calories. The selected goal adjusts that maintenance estimate to produce a general daily target.
What affects daily calorie needs?
Age, body size, sex and physical activity all affect energy needs. Daily movement, job type, training, health and body composition can also make a difference. The NHS uses general reference figures of around 2,000 kcal for an average woman and 2,500 kcal for an average man, while noting that individual needs vary.
